You are your dog's best friend. Your dog looks to you for companionship, leadership, food, and guidance in how to live well in human society.

We are always teaching our dogs, whether we are aware of it or not. They study our actions and our responses to their actions. They naturally behave like dogs. In many cases, a dog who is "misbehaving" either has not been clearly educated or rewarded for the desired behavior, was poorly socialized as a puppy, or is misbehaving because his needs are not being met in some way.

Like any healthy relationship, your relationship with your dog needs to be mutually satisfying. Communicating clearly and consistently with your dog in an enjoyable and rewarding way, understanding and providing for your dog's needs and desires, and being a benevolent leader are the keys to a happy, mutually satisfying relationship with your dog.

Puppy Training

You start training your puppy the first moment you are together. Your puppy is always learning from you. Puppyhood is the most impressionable age in forming the personality of your future dog. Socialization, potty training, and bite inhibition are the most important lessons of early puppyhood and must be your top priority with your new puppy.

As soon as your puppy is 12 weeks old it is very important to take your puppy to puppy class. At the present time Sunshine Puppy is not offering group puppy classes. We highly reccomend Sirius Puppy Training Classes.

We offer in home private puppy training which is a wonderful way to get your relationship with your puppy started right. The earlier you invest in training your puppy the higher the payoff because you are setting clear, consistent boundaries and developing a happy, mututally satisfying relationship with a strong foundation. The window of socialization in the first 4 months of your puppy's life can not be made up later if it is missed. In-home private trainings are a nice addition to puppy classes because you will get one on one instruction to work on your dogs specific needs in your home without the distractions in class. They are not a subsitute for puppy classes. In home training does not provide the all important socialization with other puppies and different types of people that your puppy will get in puppy class.

Adult Dog Training

Dogs are always learning. The best time to improve your relationship with your dog is the present. If your dog is behaving in ways that you dislike, you can modify these behavior by clearly and consistently communicating and rewarding other prefered behaviors, You can also make your relationship more satisfying for your dog by learning more about what your dog may be needing. Situations and expectations change over time and its important to clearly communicate to your dog what is expected in new situations and to reward this behavior so that your dog enjoys the new changes.
