DIET - Healthy food and water

We love feeding a raw food diet to our pets and have done so for over 13 years. There is a wealth of information on the internet about raw food pet diets, including many discussion groups.

Raw pet food is becoming increasing popular, for very good reason, and there are many frozen, prepared raw foods available. Our absolute favorite pet food is Smallbatch. It is extremely fresh, made from human grade, pasture raised, antibiotic and hormone free meats, and organic fruits and vegetables. Smallbatch is made in small batches to keep it fresh. It is the number one choice of our dogs. More infomation on Smallbatch pet food at http://www.smallbatchpets.com/#/home/

For pets who do not do well on raw diets we recommend balanced, home prepared fresh diets, or very high quality prepared foods. The Whole Dog Journal is a good resource for diet and care for your pets. They have an annual pet food issue in which they rate the commercial pet foods. You can find them at http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/

Fresh water is also very important for pets. Dogs and cats should have access to fresh clean water at all times. Purified water is best, as it has the chorine and other chemicals removed. We recommend getting a home water purifier (aquasana and multipure are good options)  or refilling water jugs (BPA free) from the reverse osmosis water purification machines available at grocery stores. Do not buy bottled water in plastic jugs from the grocery store. It is often no better than tap water, is made worse by sitting in the flimsy plastic bottles and a terrible for the environment due to the massive excess of plastic water bottles in landfill.

Pet drinking fountains are also wonderful for pets. They love moving water and tend to drink more from fountains keeping their bodies hydrated and their kidneys healthy and happy.
